5 Pilates class no-no’s

Pilates classes are fun and anyone can do them. In fact, it does not matter what your fitness level is, how old you are, or if you have ever done Pilates before, you can join a Pilates class. Beginner Pilates classes are available at local studios, and many Pilates instructors gladly take on beginner clients.

Taking your first Pilates class can seem daunting. Maybe even scary and worrisome. Fortunately, we have some good news for you: all you need is comfortable clothes and positive energy. You are then ready for your Pilates class.

In this article, we will look at some no-no’s of a Pilates class to make your experience the best one possible.

1. Don’t wear uncomfortable clothing

In a Pilates class, you should be as comfortable as possible. You will have to be able to move freely without your clothes restricting your movements. The best clothes are stretchy, easy to move in, breathable, and comfortable for you.

Many people prefer to wear yoga pants or leggings, and a simple T-shirt or a tank top. You should also wear socks. Shoes are not needed in a Pilates class.

2. Don’t forget your water bottle

Though Pilates is not high intensity, it is recommended to have a bottle of water with you for class. In fact, you can even add some supplements in the water bottle, such as electrolytes. However, you should leave juices and sodas at home.

3. Don’t forget good hygiene

Though you will be sweating during the class and might not mind it yourself, be courteous to your fellow students and your teacher. Remember to wear clean clothes and use deodorant. Another note is that strong smelling perfumes should be left at home: after all, working out while the room smells of heavy perfumes might not be ideal for everyone.

4. Don’t come in late

Always be on time. No matter if it is a group class or a private class, you should always remember to be on time. Being late to a group class is inconsiderate towards your fellow students, and being late to a private class is not nice for your teacher.

So, remember to leave early enough that you will have plenty of time to get to class early.

5. Don’t forget to have fun

While Pilates is all about fitness and well-being, you should not forget to have fun, too. Take in the full experience, enjoy the company of other students and your teacher, and make new friends.
