Weight-loss with Pilates

Pilates is a wonderful exercise for everyone, as it is a low-impact way of exercising. However, because of this, it does not provide a ton of cardiovascular exercise, which is what you need in order to lose weight. Despite this, you may have heard of people who have experienced weight-loss with Pilates.

In this article, we will tell you how you can lose weight with Pilates.

Weight-loss with Pilates

Do Pilates at least 3 times a week

In order to see progress fast with Pilates, you should take classes at least 3 times a week. You will notice improved flexibility, better balance, stronger muscles, and (yes) even weight-loss. For instance, you can take 2 mat classes and 1 reformer class, or vice versa.

Taking Pilates regularly is the key to success and that is how you will see results fast. As Pilates is low-impact, you will need to do it consistently to see improvement.

Focus on your diet

The fact is, that you cannot out-train a bad diet. Especially, not with Pilates. If you eat unhealthily, you simply cannot burn off the calories that you consume. Also, eating fat, sugars, and salt can make you wain water weight faster.

Another con about eating unhealthy foods (such as fast foods), is that you will start to feel sluggish and not up for exercising. This creates a bad wheel that you will have a hard time getting out of.

Pay attention to vegetables, fruits, salmon, chicken, grains, and seeds. For instance, try out oatmeal instead of pancakes in the morning for breakfast. Also, keep in mind that you should still get enough calories – so, don’t try to starve yourself.

Do other sports, too

As we said, Pilates is not a cardiovascular exercise, which is why it by itself is not great for losing weight. You should supplement your exercise routine with walking or swimming, for instance. These are low-impact sports too, so even if you suffer from joint pain or certain injuries, you may still be able to swim and/or walk.

For instance, many dancers and figure skaters do Pilates as a way to keep in shape and prevent injuries. Other sports can support Pilates greatly, and vice versa.

Remember to sleep

Excess stress and tiredness will raise our cortisone levels, which will make us gain weight. Remembering to rest and sleep is vital if you want to lose weight. This being the case, remember to get at least 7,5-8,5 hours of sleep each night. Also – taking a nap is never a bad idea!

Taking breaks from work and resting is very important not only physically, but mentally, too.

Stay consistent

When it comes to weight-loss, it is all about changing habits. You will ultimately need to change your habits from bad to better. Staying consistent is often one of the hardest things to do. Sometimes, getting a workout buddy can help to keep you committed.

For instance, you can start taking Pilates classes together or go on walks every evening. If you reside on Long Island in New York, contact us for Pilates classes in Great Neck, NY.
